Steam on EU Environmental Policy

When the EU Ministers of Environment meet in Soenderborg July 19th – 21st, they will also find The Danish Society for a Living Sea, and its headquarters in the ‘marine environment cutter’: M/S Anton, and exhibitions about sea environment and fishery.

Saturday from 14.00 – 16.30 the crew of M/S Anton invites the press onboard. We will follow the ministers at sea, when they have lunch on the steamboat “Alexandra” and the sailboat “Frem”. In this way we can get a living impression and some photos of the ministers.

-         The ministers ought to be grateful in having M/S Anton as accompanying vessel. M/S Anton saved a huge Russian steamboat, that had run out of steam last week. Friday July 12th, M/S Anton  towed “DUNKAN” of 88 tons in harbour in Middelfart.

M/S Anton is ready, if the ministers should run our of steam during the ministers meeting – or if they should make the mistake to believe that the there is no more steam on the public interest in environmental matters.

There is immense public interest in the quality of the waters around us: are they fit to bath in? are the fish that stem from them fit for human consumption?

We want to make it clear to the ministers that they still have a large assignment ahead of them, and this assignment will need a lot of energy on the meeting in Soenderborg.

M/S Anton is the sailing office of The Danish Society For A Living Sea. The society is working for a sustainable exploitation of the marine environment and its resources, and against pollution of any kind. Furthermore, it is active in an international fishery project for the re-establishing of the fishery on the Aral Sea, Central Asia.

During the Danish Chairmanship the Danish Society will be present whenever EU ministers meet to discuss matters of environment and/or the sea – and wherever there is a harbour for our headquarters. The society is supported by The Danish Foreign Ministry to arrange alternative information and meetings during the Danish chairmanship.
